Modern Kitchen

The modern kitchen is minimal and sleek. The lines are usually horizontal so everything lines up with the bench top and overhead cabinets. It is not always the case, but when achieving minimalism it adds to the strength of that statement.

Most contemporary kitchens have flat faced doors and panels and the finishes usually are polyurethane, laminates, vinyls and veneers and the colors in some can be bold. Handle-less kitchens are popular and electric touch drawers such as Blum Servo Drive are great if you can afford them. The bench tops are usually manufactured stone such as Caesarstone, Smartstone, Quantum Quartz, Silastone and are sometimes thicker than normal. If there is space for an island many choose to have waterfall ends to the floor on either end, thus achieving a very symmetrical look.

Corian is also a surface that offers something the other surfaces don’t. Corian and it’s competitors offer a seamless surface. This means there are no joins regardless of the length or the corners. Corian can also be rolled up the wall if desired without any joins. This gives a lovely finish when using Glass Splash-Backs, as the glass can sit on a small 10mm cove, thus eliminating an abrupt corner that sometimes cracks when grout has been used.
